Carla is a graduate of the Masters of Social Work program at the University of Central Florida. She is currently registered through the state of Florida as a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern and is working toward becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Carla has always had a passion for helping and empowering marginalized and under-served populations. “It shouldn’t be a ‘privilege’ to have your basic human needs met. Everyone deserves to live a life where they feel safe, worthwhile, and can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.”
“I was first introduced to human trafficking when I saw the movie Taken. Even while watching this movie I didn’t know the term ‘human trafficking’. I thought to myself, ‘this is more than awful…it’s disgusting’. I didn’t realize it was happening in real life, all over the world, even in my own neighborhoods.” From the silver-screen to people she met through her masters degree program, Carla was introduced to the world of modern-day slavery. “I have found my cause. I hope to help and empower survivors to live lives where they feel safe and worthwhile”.
Outside of the world of social work, Carla enjoys spending time with her family and enjoys being involved in the local Orlando theatre community.
