Get To Know Us
Florida Abolitionist exists to stop all forms of human trafficking in the United States. Many organizations tirelessly fight human trafficking on an international scale but there is so much work to be done right here in the U.S. Despite increased media attention and legislative efforts, human trafficking remains pervasive in our country. We are dedicated to addressing the crime in “our own backyard” of Orlando and the surrounding region.
Florida Abolitionist (FA) is a non-governmental 501(c)3 organization established to stop human trafficking. FA’s approach is to help rebuild the lives of survivors while empowering the community to prevent the crime from continuing.
Tomas J. Lares, the Founder and CEO, began his journey in 2004 when he learned about human trafficking. He quickly began educating others about the crime and assisting victims in Central Florida. He formed Florida Abolitionist in 2009 to expand his efforts of assisting victims and educating the community.
150 years ago, abolitionists led the effort to outlaw slavery in our country. Today, we need an army of people equally as committed to abolishing modern-day slavery in our community. Join us!
