Rachel was introduced to the subject of human trafficking in 2011 through a nightmare that woke her out of her sleep. Her curiosity led her to an internet search where she found an article reporting the sentencing of a man who was guilty of sex trafficking his children. She could not believe her eyes as she read story after story, national and worldwide, about victims and perpetrators. Growing up in a small town in Ohio and living in a bubble without television or newspapers, this nightmare seemed like a vision from the end times. Her disbelief soon turned to anger and she got up the next morning to learn more and get involved however possible.
Today, through Florida Abolitionist, she volunteers at awareness and education events and leads groups in hotel outreaches throughout Central Florida. These teams take a grassroots approach to educate hospitality employees at the numerous hotels and motels where trafficking often occurs. By teaching employees how to identify and respond to human trafficking, Rachel is helping stop human trafficking in our community.
